Did FMC Handle Radioactive Waste & Agent Orange?

WIVB TV4 Buffalo, NY - Did FMC Handle Radioactive Waste & Agent Orange?: "Did FMC Handle Radioactive Waste & Agent Orange?

(Middleport, NY, July 29, 2005) - - Recently-uncovered documents concerning work at the FMC Corporation are raising serious concerns with Royalton-Hartland school officials and some Middleport residents.

The documents indicate FMC, years ago, shipped out tons of radioactive waste from the facility.

Papers also claim FMC had contracts with the government to handle two of the main ingredients used in Agent Orange, the toxic herbicide used in Vietnam.

FMC officials deny ever working with Agent Orange.

Brian Vain, FMC plant manager, said, 'However, we did in fact handle, along with many other herbicides over our history, the two herbicides that comprise Agent Orange -- 2-4-D and 2-4-5-T. They are both regularly-available, commercially-registered herbicides.'

FMC officials believe the Middleport plant might have used low-level radioactive isotopes in research and development, years ago, but they are long gone."
