DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) ? An 'Alert' was declared at the Southern Co.'s Farley Nuclear Plant Tuesday, but no radiation was released and no protective actions were required for the public's health and safety, officials said.
The alert was declared at 1:19 p.m. and the Office of Radiation Control was notified at 1:35 p.m.
The Alabama Emergency Management Agency and Alabama Department of Public Health released a statement saying the alert was declared because there was a loss of all main control board annunciator capability in the Unit 2 reactor. The reactor is located in southeast Alabama along the Georgia line and was shut down at the time of the incident.
The capability was restored and the alert was terminated at 2:08 p.m.
