RALEIGH, N.C. -- One of two devices containing radioactive materials reported missing from a Wake Forest construction site has been recovered.
On Oct. 3, the devices were taken from a temporary job site near the Highway 98 Bypass. They were being used to test the density, moisture and condition of materials during construction.
One of the devices, a Troxler Model 4640-B, was recently found at TT&E and Metal in Garner. Authorities are still searching for the second device, a Troxler Model 3450. It has a stainless steel handle protruding from its top. It weighs about 20 to 30 pounds, and measures 24 inches by 9 inches by 16 inches.
The gauge has a caution label indicating a small radioactive source is contained within it. Officials say the gauge poses no immediate health or safety threat unless it is opened.
If you see the other gauge, you should contact the N.C. Radiation Protection Section at (919) 571-4141 or the local law enforcement agency at 911.
